Project: 1976 BMW 2002
Date: April 2000
Hard
to believe now, but this 1976 2002, although serviceable, was slowly
rusting away when it was delivered to AVA Restoration in April 2000. The owner
wanted to protect the body, but still have a car he could take to the track.
The finished car is shown at right.

This car had a substantial amount of rust
on it, even though it was brought to New Hampshire from Louisiana. This shot of
the front wheel well and quarter panel shows the damage.
|
|
The front fascia showed serious rust and
needed to be replaced. AVA's experience with 2002s is vital when trying to
align tricky body panels like nose pieces.

AVA Restoration has a network of skilled
craftsmen for specialty jobs. Here, the 2002, stripped of chrome, lights, and
trim, is loaded for delivery to the body shop. Due to the relatively good
condition of this car, a complete body-off restoration was not necessary.
|
|
Fresh from the body shop, the car's
original color, Fjord Blue, has been brought back to life, and the car is ready
for final re-assembly.
